Phillies is an American brand of cigar that was originally manufactured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to the location, the brand’s original name was Philadelphia Hand Made, but smokers shortened it to Phillies, which eventually became the official brand name. The Phillies brand was originally owned by Bayuk Cigars, but the brand of cigars has changed hands numerous times since and is now owned by Altadis U.S.A., an American subsidiary of a Spanish cigar company.

Although Phillies are sold in many styles today, they were originally sold only as blunts. Blunt was a term coined by Bayuk and used on the Phillies packaging. It was meant to indicate the shape of the cigar, which was short and fat compared to the more-expensive selection of cigars that were popular in the area at that time. The Phillies Blunt eventually became popular throughout the U.S. as a cheap but good cigar that is the perfect size and could be purchased as individual cigars, which was unusual for inexpensive cigars.

Phillies Blunts are also known for using a strong and sweet tobacco-leaf wrapper, which, coupled with the inexpensiveness of the cigar, made it a popular option for self-rolling cigarillos with tobacco, marijuana and other herbs. When the brand was acquired by Altadis, the company saw that popularity as an opportunity and began developing Phillies cigarillos and other Phillies-branded cigar styles.

The standard Phillies cigarillo is called Phillies Cigarillo Regular. The brand is machine-made in Alabama using a blend of Honduran and Dominican tobaccos. Each pack includes five cigarillos and can be purchased in cartons of five and 30. The wrapper leaf is very similar to the leaf used on the Phillies Blunt, and this provides the cigarillo with an interesting texture and taste that is considerably different from the average cigarillo on the market. The cigarillos are also available in a wide range of tasty cigar flavors, including wine grape, strawberry and double-dipped apple.

Since cigarillos and similar premium cigars are not taxed at the same rate that cigarettes are, they’ve become a popular alternative for some cigarette smokers. In order to reach this market more fully, Phillies also has a wide range of filtered cigars, which are quite similar to the cigarillos but are not nearly as heavy. They do have a wonderful flavor, but fans of the classic Phillies-style tobacco leaf may be disappointed because the filtered cigars use a much thinner wrapper that is more suitable to a cigarette smoker. The filtered cigars are also available in a wide range of flavors
